Assumptions
The following assumptions support the development of individualized budget guidelines, from which the Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF) manages the allocation of annual grant disbursements:
- Room & Board in a Youth Hostel = 6,000 Ksh/month
- Personal Allowance = 1,200 Ksh/month, covers: personal care needs (soap, hygiene products, etc.), communication needs (mobile phone 'text messaging' Internet access, stamps, etc.) supplemental food and school supplies
- Clothing Allowance = 400 Ksh/month (achieved through secondhand clothing shops)
- Gap Period Courses = Courses that provide the girls with useful skills
- Give Back Commitments (community volunteering) will take many forms and will be guided by the needs of the local communities where the girls work and live.
- The Kenyan Government offers higher education loans (HELB Loans) to students admitted to the Public University System (Kenyatta University, University of Nairobi, etc.) through Kenya's Joint Admissions Board (JAB) Process. When a student receives the maximum HELB Loan, an additional 60,000 Ksh is needed to top up tuition, books and other charges, and an additional 24,000 Ksh is needed to top up room and board provisions. To qualify for HELB Loan, a student must graduate high school with a B + average or better.
- 85% of donated funds are used to cover the direct expenses of each of the girls.
- 15% of donated funds are paid to KCDF for administration, coordination and institutionalization of the GGBC Process into the communities where it operates.
