Blessed Generation Ruiru

Blessed Generation Ruiru (formerly Spirit of Faith Children’s Centre) was established in 1984. It is located near Ruiru, Nairobi, in a semi rural area. The centre is currently taking care of 138 orphaned children, both boys and girls. Most of the children live at the centre and attend the primary school while the others are in different high schools in Kenya.

There are 28 Blessed Generation girls in the GGBC. The mentoring begins at an earlier age with this group of girls... and carries on using the same process once they are in High School.

Once under the care of the Centre, the children are provided with basic needs, love and education until they are established adults with their own lives. They are also raised in a traditional Kenyan manner by a motivated team of staff members, with a strong emphasis on values and education, preparing them to become good Kenyan citizens, with a job or career, which matches their potential.

Blessed Generation operates a 'Sustainability Model' that is considered a best practice in Kenya and Across Africa. The Blessed Generation Primary School is an income-generating project to the Centre. In addition to providing education for the Centres Children, the Management of Blessed Generation invites children from outside (day students) who pay school fees.

Other sustainability initiatives include
Hens — they have sufficient quantities of eggs for their own needs and sell the surplus
Cows — they have enough milk for their own use
Maize — they grow enough for their own use and plan to increase production for sale
Soapstone Statues — they make and sell
German Shepherd Puppies — are bred and sold
Rabbits — are bred and sold

The Centre is dependent on gifts and donations. One of its major Donor Programs is run by SWK, a Foundation based in the Netherlands. As a child enters the Centre, SWK arrange for a sponsor to pay the education costs through primary school.

The girls have one role model to whom no other comes close! They all aspiore to be like ‘Veronica.’ Veronica grew up at the orphanage, where her musical talent was recognized. Veronica is now a well-known musician and vocalist. One of her best known and most acclaimed songs is titled “Blessed Generation.” It was written as a tribute to the generation of AIDS Orphans who count their blessing and move above their sorrows.

The children were invited to perform “Blessed Generation” for the President and his wife.
