 Phase III: Tertiary Education
Esther is thrilled to learn that Kenyatta University admitted her to the major of her choice, business commerce with an emphasis in finance. She is now 21, and emotionally and intellectually ready to embrace this next journey in her life.
Andrea and Esther have a strong bond now. Together, they have lived through 6 years of Esther’s challenges and breakthroughs. Esther has been very good about writing in her ‘Personal Safari’ Journal, and she reflects on ‘how’ she did, ‘what’ she did, to overcome challenges and obstacles and achieve the goals she set for herself. Throughout the next four years, Andrea mentors Esther. At Kenyatta University, Ester has access to the computer lab and communicates with Andrea via the Internet. When possible, they talk to each other using Skype.
Esther’s government scholarship covers tuition, books and very basic accommodation. The GGBC subsidizes what is needed by providing funding for food, personal products, clothing and books. Esther continues to meet with Mercy. Mercy continues to award Esther her spending allowance. Esther continues to keep and submit monthly budgets.
Throughout her four years at university, Esther continues to Give Back time and talent to help others in communities where she is affiliated, especially her alma mater high school...with whom she will always be connected. During her break periods, she commits to working on structured community volunteer projects, organized by KCDF.
Esther graduates Kenyatta University with honors and she is very excited about applying for a position in banking. Although Andrea cannot attend the graduation, she celebrates the occasion with Esther‘s GGBC Family in California. Esther has been a part of their lives for 10 years. Her smiles are their smiles too.
