Mentors

Mentors: Women with the desire and capacity to Give Back by providing one-to-one mentoring for disadvantaged girls who make it to high school. They mentor the girls through a Five-Phase Transitioning Process whereby the girls are then able to bring forward specific skills and talents needed to provide a sustainable solution to socio-economical change and development in Kenya.

Mentors are currently from Kenya, USA, UK, Belgium, South Africa, Australia, France, and Holland. The Kenyan mentors provide local institutionalization and program sustainability. The Non-Kenyan mentors provide a connection to global resources in time, talent and treasure. Together they form a Global Give Back Circle aligned on a common mission.

Mentors work in a ‘buddy system’ structure whereby Kenyan mentors are connected with non-Kenyan mentors to share best practice mentoring experiences. Many Non-Kenyan mentors will never visit Kenya, but their presence is represented by the overseas mentors and the Kenyan mentors on the ground.

In the words of one mentor:  " What mentoring means to me is that you have a chance to make a real difference in the life of a young woman -- a work of art in progress that you can influence.   The girls are so hungry for role models and for inspiration and guidance, that it is truly amazing when you realize that your suggestions based on your wisdom and life experience  have such a big impact.   Having a chance to meet my mentee in person really cemented the bond we have, and helped me to better understand her needs and feel more connected to her.    I also feel so privileged to have the opportunity to learn about her rich tribal and country culture and the beauty of it."
